POETIC ABSTRACT
08.06.06 • 23.07.06
opening: thursday 8 june at 19 hrs
artists from belgium and france and 4 different disciplines create a poetic happening together.
anna torfs is known for the disarming simplicity and powerful forms of her glass design objects. she has also made a number of unique pieces for this exhibition.
the young french artist pierre salvan inscribes rather than paints the infinitely minute in transparent space. he creates a contrast between touches of colour and the subtly nuanced clarity of white.
martine dere will create a poetic atmosphere with her haiku-like pointillist poems, under the visual directorship of graphic artists sanny winters and tim oeyen.

1. ANNA TORFS
after studying interior architecture at the st. lukas school of fine art in brussels, anna torfs took a postgraduate course in stage design in prague, which she completed in 1991. since she was fascinated by the richness of czech art and craftsmanship, which attracted her more than the contemporary local theatre scene, and she decided to move in a new direction. it was time to present her own collection, and this was to be her glass work: authentic pieces without added decoration; old bohemian techniques used to produce a timeless range of glass objects.

2. PIERRE SALVAN
from my experience as a graphic artist, I retain the minimalist approach, the need for
a simple line, an essential symbol. I present the interaction of
transparency, matter, emptiness, light, hues, whiteness and colour.
a study of intimate moments, born from ephemeral physical or spiritual
emotions, conscious or unconscious. the celebration of pleasure in
creation and of sensual intensity expressed through a body in dancing motion.
3. TIM OEYEN & SANNY WINTERS:
the henry van de velde awards 2004
tim oeyen and sanny winters were the recipients of the award for young talent. tim oeyen has worked for several years now as a graphic designer, initially as art director and now as a freelancer, for weekend knack. tim oeyen and sanny winters are brilliant designers who understand what a letter can represent visually.
